Junior Program

Junior Leadership Macomb was established in 2013.  The program is designed for students entering their junior year of high school in September.  It is open to all Macomb County High schools, public, private, charter and home schooled individuals.  Similar to the Leadership Macomb Core program, the Junior program focuses on educating participants on the assets and issues and systems that make up Macomb County.  The program meets one Saturday per month from September through April, with a graduation ceremony in May.  Each session is from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.   Sessions are held at various locations throughout Macomb County.  Sessions include presentations by topic experts, interactive exercises, group dialogue, panel discussions and unique field trips.  There is no other program of this kind in Michigan.  Junior Leadership Macomb participants are also given the opportunity to job shadow in career field(s) of interest to them, and are required to complete group community service projects.

Objectives of the Junior Leadership Macomb Program are to:

  • Create opportunities for students to realize their leadership potential
  • Expose students to systems (government, justice, environment, health care, arts and culture, business, education) that make up Macomb County
  • Provide access to a network of professionals and fellow students from across the County
  • Foster a commitment to Community involvement

Students must apply to the program by June 1st and will be notified of their acceptance by August 1st.  Selection is based on personal goals, references, and their commitment to attending the Saturday sessions.
